Retagged with more appropriate tags ([survival] wasn't really relevant; replaced [safety] with [health] since that's the main concern; add [the-netherlands] since the question is specific to a region in that country)

Dec 18, 2016 at 8:48 comment added CG Smith @B540Glenn Yes I think I'll try practice dressing the fish more and just do that. I'm still not 100% that I can keep it fresh/safe until I get home as I won't be able to ice it. Salting is intriguing, is there any rudimentary salting method that can be done at the riverside? Thanks
Dec 18, 2016 at 8:47 comment added CG Smith @KenGraham I would prefer to as it's more expedient and I think safer than waiting until I get home seeing as I won't be able to ice it. Thanks

Dec 17, 2016 at 17:55 comment added B540Glenn Do not worry about your experience with cleaning fish. The more you clean, the better you get. Are you willing to try salting the fish? Salting is an old method of preserving food.
Dec 17, 2016 at 15:33 comment added Ken Graham Are you asking to do the cooking or preserving while at the river itself?
Dec 17, 2016 at 14:48 comment added Francky_V Pretty sure you want to remove the guts - but then it's pretty easy to pick. You could even buy a whole fish at a grocery store to check it out before hand if you want.
