I have in the past used tape, natural items, boot scratch across sand to mark side canyons, etc.

Yes I always try to remove them but if something like "left behind tape" upsets you that much, well you have other (and bigger) problemsshould not be too upsetting. Just try to be nice (and understanding) :) (and remove it yourself)
