Jul 24, 2015 at 5:13 | comment | added | jamesqf | I'm pretty sure that a thermos (vacuum flask) is going to keep it cold longer than any other non-active cooler. I don't know how long, precisely, but they're used for transporting e.g. small quantities of liquid nitrogen: physics.stackexchange.com/questions/73803/… Best idea would be to try one before you leave on the trip - fill one with ice cubes, say, and let it sit outdoors.
Jul 24, 2015 at 4:57 | comment | added | user5330 | Freezer is -18C, Dry ice is -79C - big enough difference I would not put the item in contact with the dry ice unless I know it could go that low safely.

Jul 24, 2015 at 4:41 | comment | added | Welsh4588 | @mattnz so what would you suggest I use? I understand the idea of keeping it within bounds, but I'm able to put it into my freezer currently so being "too cold" isn't an issue

Use a Min/max thermometer in and check your solution keeps within bounds of those storage requirements (keeping in mind you backpack.)

Jul 24, 2015 at 4:30 | comment | added | user5330 | How cold is cold? What is the item? Dry ice will freeze it, Is freezing a problem?
Jul 24, 2015 at 1:54 | comment | added | Welsh4588 | @jamesqf how long would dry ice keep he thermos cold?
Jul 24, 2015 at 1:53 | comment | added | Welsh4588 | @jamesqf thermas container would be perfect sized, if it would stay cold that long! It's about the size of a large snickers.
Jul 24, 2015 at 1:12 | comment | added | jamesqf | What size item? Perhaps a thermos container and dry ice?
